Gandhi said that “the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. These words ring true for me especially now as I take the bold step of launching Goliath & Co.
I was born with bilateral club feet and further complications and my doctors were uncertain whether I’d ever be able to walk. I have to date undergone a series of nineteen reconstructive surgeries and walk with the support of ankle foot orthotics. Despite my situation, my parents were adamant on educating me at a mainstream school. I was a physically disabled girl in a mainstream environment and as such, not only was I was acutely aware of my environment, but I could also identify and root out discrimination. Choosing then to become a Lawyer was not a difficult decision to make.
However, like most good stories my journey to now has not been without its own unique set of challenges. I found my time at UCT as a disabled student to be particularly difficult. By way of an example, the law faculty is on middle campus while most electives were on upper campus and as some of you may know, at the epicenter of UCT is a set of steps that I could not navigate. Albeit challenging, I would not exchange my UCT experience for another. I am a firm believer that endurance builds character but more importantly, it was there that I formed relationships with friends who have become colleagues and who have been instrumental in the eventual launch of Goliath & Co.
In January 2017, I commenced with Articles of Clerkship at Hildebrand Attorneys where I would become an admitted attorney and an associate and where I remained for just short of five years. I am grateful to Hildebrand Attorneys for the potential that they saw first in me. It was during those five years that I developed a deep passion for practicing the law and where I learnt that I have the makings of a great lawyer. I was exposed to a diverse clientele and numerous aspects of civil law which have assisted me in becoming a confident, competent and capable Legal Practitioner. I learnt early on in my career that I am a skillful drafter, litigator and negotiator.
Most of all, I found purpose in the process of serving my clients in legal practice. It is for this reason that I have chosen to launch Goliath & Co, to serve you passionately, diligently, humbly and in the spirit of excellence.
It is with great pride that I launch Goliath & Co and affirm my commitment to you, to the prescripts of the Constitution and to the pursuit of justice.
We look forward to working with you.
